My 14 year marketing career spanning agency, in-house and consulting work has provided me with the skillset needed to serve as a connector between business strategy & tactical execution, and I'm comfortable filling gaps in both worlds where needed.My approach to marketing is fully customized to the brand and is grounded in data-driven decision making and high-quality, impactful creative and content. I have experience working with brands of all stages, sizes and verticals.I co-founded Emphasis Media, a modern marketing agency, and currently work as a managing partner leading teams of marketing, design and analytics experts.I provide consulting services for marketing and business strategy through my personal brand, J Betancourt Consulting.

A Northern California native, I settled in captivating San Francisco after graduating from U.C. Berkeley, where I've remained ever since.After a brief stint in event planning, I found my way to marketing and began my career at AKQA, a global creative and media agency. Working with brilliant colleagues on world-class brands, I learned to supplement my natural creativity with data and analytics to drive results.I then moved in-house to manage user acquisition for TripIt from SAP Concur, where I gained valuable experience working closely with product, brand and PR/Comms teams and sharpened my media planning, vendor management and product marketing skillset.In 2016, I made the shift into consulting and began partnering with startups and tech companies as a strategic extension of their marketing teams. In 2021, I co-founded Emphasis Media and now manage a nimble team of brilliant strategists, campaign managers, creatives and analytics experts.Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with brands like Wynn Las Vegas, TurboTax, r.e.m. beauty by Ariana Grande, Meyer Sound, Blue Shield of California, and many more.
